ANCHOR-LOK – 29 YEARS OF SERVICE

In 1995, a phosphate facility installed an Anchor-Lok Double Walled Polypropylene severe service Barometric Sump.

With exposure to phosphoric and sulfuric acids along with sodium hydroxide and temperatures to 200° F, it is a demanding environment.

Atlas was contacted in the summer of 2023 by the process engineer. He wanted a replacement for the Barometric Sump.  When asked if the sump had been breached or compromised, his answer was no!

The reason for replacement was age and the concrete surrounding the sump was in poor condition and after almost 29 years of service, they thought it was time to do so in conjunction with necessary concrete repair.

The Anchor-Lok PP replacement sump outer dimensions are 17’-10” X 6’ x 8’-4” depth, with inner sump at 16’-4” x 4’-6”x 7’-11” depth. It also incorporated leak detection, a single baffle and required 12 beam pockets.

The inner and outer sumps and components were shipped to Wyoming where the sump was precast onsite. Atlas provided field welding services.

A true doubled wall (inner and outer sumps with concrete in between) and leak detection can be a bit tricky.

It was a bit ironic that the newly precast sump was installed almost 29 years after the date of original installation.
